The Manakula Vinayagar Temple is one of the most vibrant and famous ancient temple in Puducherry which is dedicated to Lord Ganesha. Its sanctum is with Rajasthan marble and its vimana (a tower over the sanctum) with a gold roof and also contains more than 40 skillfully painted friezes. Deities bring their new born here for worship before going to any other temple.
An ideal place for a stroll, the Promenade is a 1.5Km long walk built along the beach. On the beachfront, there are statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Jeanne d'Arc and Dupleix, a war memorial, the Heritage building and an old lighthouse that is 27 metres tall

Ousteri lake is one of the biggest lake and major supplier of drinking water in those days. Now it is opened for the tourists for boat ride and to watch the birds. During the season, this lake acts as dwelling place for many migrating birds.
The park facing the governor's bungalow reflects the French influence. Once called as "place du pantheon "now turned as Aayi mandapam- the emblem of the Pondicherry Government. The park surrounded by Aayi mandapam has been restructured by preserving its heritage.
Facilities for boating are available at the Boat House on the River Chunnambar,8kms from Pondicherry. The backwater and the lush greenery on both sides of chunnambar provide an ideal setting for boating.
Sacred Heart of Jesus is located on the South Boulevard. It is built in the Gothic style and has three stained glass panels in a corridor behind the altar which exhibits the life of Christ. The Eglise de Notre Dame des Anges on Rue Dumas was built in 1865.
Panchamuga Anjaneya Temple has been built at Panchavadi, a small village, on the high way leading to Tindivanam. It is just 12kms distance from Puducherry. The gigantic idol of Anjaneya which is standing 32 feet high is becoming popular day by day and attracts all worshippers, young and old, alike from far and near.
The Botanical Garden in Pondicherry was opened to the public in 1826 , it is located at the southern entrance of city bus stand. Tourist Places in Pondicherry sprawls over a 22 acres area and here you can just relax and listen to the twittering of birds and explore the rich variety of flora here.
